Persuasion dynamics

چکیده
We here discuss a model of continuous opinion dynamics in which agents adjust continuous opinions as a result of random binary encounters whenever their difference in opinion is below a given threshold. We concentrate on the version of the model in the presence of few extremists which might drive the dynamics to generalized extremism. A network version of the dynamics is presented here, and its results are compared to those previously obtained for the full-mixing case. The same dynamical regimes are observed, but in rather different parameter regions. We here show that the combination of meso-scale features resulting from the first interaction steps determines the asymptotic state of the dynamics. r 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. متن کاملIdeology, Deliberation and Persuasion within Small Groups: A Randomized Field Experiment on Fiscal Policy
This paper evaluates the dynamics of small group persuasion within a large scale randomized deliberative experiment, in particular whether persuasion in this context is driven by the ideological composition of small groups, to which participants were randomly assigned. In these discussions focusing on U.S. fiscal policy, ideological persuasion occurs but does not tend to be polarizing, a result...
متن کاملSpecifying and Implementing a Persuasion Dialogue Game Using Commitments and Arguments
In this paper we propose a new persuasion dialogue game for agent communication. We show how this dialogue game is modeled by a framework based on social commitments and arguments. Called Commitment and Argument Network (CAN), this framework allows us to model communication dynamics in terms of actions that agents apply to commitments and in terms of argumentation relations. This dialogue game ...
متن کاملInvestigating Social Software as Persuasive Technology
Social software (SSW), nowadays increasingly widespread, has excellent potential for use as persuasive technology. What differentiates it from many other persuasive technology platforms is that it is inherently collective, making group dynamics a powerful factor in any SSW context of persuasion. Based on the psychology of groups, persuasion, and cross-cultural theory, we discuss affiliation, ac...

متن کاملOpinion Dynamics with Varying Susceptibility to Persuasion
A long line of work in social psychology has studied variations in people’s susceptibility to persuasion – the extent to which they are willing to modify their opinions on a topic. This body of literature suggests an interesting perspective on theoretical models of opinion formation by interacting parties in a network: in addition to considering interventions that directly modify people’s intri...
